My name is Harry Buerer and I was born in 1955 to Baptist missionary parents in the Philippines. I grew up moving among various towns in northern California, enjoying mathematics, playing clarinet in the school band, and participating on the wrestling team. My dad was a pastor and I was active in church programs throughout my youth.
In 1977 I moved to Salem, Oregon, to attend Western Baptist College. While there I studied music, but ended up graduating with a major in Bible and a minor in Biblical Languages, Greek and Hebrew.
Several years after graduation I decided to pursue a career in church music and enrolled at Western Seminary in Portland. I graduated with an M.A. in Music Ministry in 1990 and had also taken numerous electives in Hebrew, Greek, and Biblical Theology.
I am currently the music director at Cedar Hills Baptist Church in Portland and live in North Portland with Suzy, my wife since 1991, and four dogs, Java, Cocoa, Abby, and Daisy, along with three cats, Maher-shalal-hash-baz (Baz), Uzi, and Tiki.
